Landline Phones FAQs
Do I need a landline connection to use a Doro home phone?
Not necessarily. Most of our home phones do require a landline connection — but the Doro 7000H is the exception. It runs entirely from a SIM card, so you get all the familiarity of a home phone with zero need for a phone line. If your area is affected by the copper network switch-off, it's worth a look.
Are Doro home phones compatible with hearing aids?
Yes. Doro home phones are designed with hearing in mind — adjustable call volume, audio boost functionality, and hearing aid compatibility are built into the range. If this is a priority, check the individual product page for the specific hearing aid compatibility rating (T-coil compatible models are clearly marked).
What's the difference between a corded and a cordless home phone?
A corded phone plugs directly into the wall and stays put — it's always charged, always in the same place, and always ready. A cordless phone gives you the freedom to move around the house during a call, charging on its base when not in use. Both have their place. If you want reliability above everything else, go corded. If you want flexibility, go cordless.
Can I get a second handset for another room?
Yes — several Doro cordless models are available as a duo, giving you one handset for downstairs and one for up. Only the main handset needs to be connected to the phone line. The second handset charges on its own base and connects wirelessly.
What happens to my home phone when the copper network is switched off?
The UK copper network is being phased out and replaced with digital (VoIP) lines. Most traditional landline phones will still work on a digital line — but it's worth checking with your provider. If you'd rather skip the uncertainty altogether, the Doro 7000H works from a SIM card with no landline required. We've got a full page on the copper switch-off if you want the details.
Landline Phones
Let's be honest, a home phone shouldn't need a manual. Doro home phones are built for people who want to pick it up, dial, and have a conversation. That's it.
Every Doro home phone comes with large, high-contrast buttons that are easy to find and easy to press, call volume you can actually control (including a boost for when you really need to hear every word), and a ringer loud enough to hear from the other end of the house. No tiny fonts, no confusing menus, no hunting for the right button in the middle of a call.
Cordless or corded — we've got both. Our cordless handsets give you the freedom to wander while you chat, available as a single unit or a duo if you want one upstairs and one down. Prefer something that lives on the desk and is always ready to go? Our corded models don't need charging and don't go missing down the back of the sofa.
Programmable direct dial buttons mean your most important numbers — family, the GP, a neighbour — are one press away. No scrolling, no remembering numbers, and no reading glasses required.
